Toonumbar Waters retained as local drawcard
Toonumbar Waters Retreat’s new operators will formally take charge of the facility at a handover ceremony from 10.30am on Tuesday, 1 September 2009.
Owned by State Water Corporation, the resort has now been leased over five years to a firm with considerable experience in the hospitality industry, following an extensive tender process.
The selection of a suitable manager means the popular Kyogle resort – featuring function centre, accommodation and recreational/sporting facilities including golf course and tennis courts – will continue to serve as a regional drawcard and community asset.
State Water Manager Maintenance and Services, Glenn Baker said the successful transfer of management responsibility will ensure the resort’s economic benefit to the region continues.
“The economic benefits and likely job creation in the local community through preserving the resort represent a mutually beneficial situation.
“This outcome assists State Water in the efficiency of its operations, while maintaining a popular recreational asset for the community.
“As a state-owned corporation, State Water has an obligation to operate as efficiently as possible in the interests of its business customers.
“State Water has greatly reduced its operating costs by streamlining its activities in the past 12 months to include only core activities.”
