Burrendong Temporary Road Closure
State Water Corporation has advised the road across the top of Burrendong Dam wall will be closed temporarily for two weeks from Monday, 10 August 2009.
The wall closure is to allow investigations on the main wall and saddle dams as part of the dam safety upgrade, on which construction is anticipated to begin early in 2010.
State Water CEO George Warne said once the investigations have been completed, the wall will be re-opened.
“We are closing the road temporarily to allow the team to do some coring on the main wall and saddle dams,” Mr Warne said.
“We expect this will take approximately two weeks, after which the road will be re-opened.”
The works are part of State Water’s dam safety upgrade program, which will inject almost a quarter of a billion dollars into regional communities across NSW, Mr Warne said.
“The safety upgrade at Burrendong Dam is expected to benefit the local area significantly by improving one of the region’s most important assets, injecting millions of dollars into the economy and employing local people.”
It is expected phase one of the Burrendong safety upgrade will cost in excess of $20 Million, with a significant proportion to be retained locally.
